Nippers

Junior surf life saving (nippers) is a great activity for children aged 5 – 13 years.   Age is taken as at midnight on 30 September each year. Therefore, if a child turns 9 on or before September 30, he or she would be in the Under 10 age group for the whole of that season.   Activities are delivered via a surf safety education program, developed by Surf Lifesaving Australia.   We see participants’ confidence, knowledge and skills increase in the beach environment.  These activities also encourage long-term active participation and provide opportunities for juniors to participate in and enjoy lifesaving and competition in the beach environment.   A wide variety of activities, suited to the skill and maturation levels of all juniors, are enjoyed each Sunday morning during the season.  The major aim is for each child to have fun!

Every junior member must participate in a Junior Activities Preliminary Skills Evaluation prior to any junior water activity training or competition being undertaken each season.

To be eligible for competition, junior members must complete an open water swim, Competition Skills Evaluation, as specified in the the 33rd edition of the SLSA Surf Sports Manual.  This competition evaluation (open water swim) must be achieved before members are eligible to compete in inter-club competition. This is a minimum standard water proficiency requirement.

For further information, contact the Club Secretary, who can direct you to the current Junior Activities Committee (JAC) representative.
